Volunteer

Volunteers are vital in helping our events run. Volunteers run GBSUP itself, and we have a number of roles for each event and our operations to keep us running.

If you are interested in getting stuck in with GBSUP and helping out at an event or operational role, please fill out our application form here.

Volunteer Roles

We have specific roles for both events and our operations.

Understand what these are and what commitments they might need from the list below.

Operational Roles

Our Operational Roles and commitment come down to what you can offer GBSUP. We appreciate that family and daily life are the most important thing, so whatever you can offer will be appreciated from an hour a week or more if you can.

Marketing

  • Helping out with our marketing strategy, delivery of marketing activities.

Sponsorship

  • Having input on our sponsorship strategy and could include the sourcing and contacting of potential sponsors.

Content Creation

  • This can be creating content for the website and writing articles for magazines.

Safety & Documentation

  • Helping with our safety documents for each event

Website

  • Creating and updating pages on the website, adding videos, content and event information. Some basic knowledge would be beneficial, but training will be given.

Digital Media

  • Creating digital content in line with our brand guidelines for GBSUP and our partners/affiliates.

Event Roles

Event Roles require a full day's commitment of time. Any volunteers will receive an automatic entry into an event of their choice for 12 months after their volunteer date. Additional benefits may apply on a per-event basis - we will make sure you get a warm drink to keep you going during the day.

Event Setup/Derig

  • This can be anything from putting up flags, tents, banners and general setup and derig once we are finished.

Check-In/Registration

  • A vital role includes checking paddlers in, and handing out bibs or event bags.

Marshalling

  • From monitoring carparks to helping paddlers with their kit and keeping spectators away from event areas.

Timing/Scoring

  • Timing paddlers through their laps and race finish. Use of Webscorer app - training will be provided.

Safety

  • Spotters and rescue craft volunteers. Watching and monitoring the course and our paddlers - some specific roles may require qualifications/experience.
