At the beginning of 2023, we announced our chosen charities to support. However, we couldn't dedicate the resources we had initially planned due to unforeseen challenges, including managing event logistics and balancing other commitments.
Moving forward into 2024, we've focused our support on one charity. This allows us to concentrate our activities and fundraising for maximum impact. We have also expanded our team, and we are already seeing the positive impact of this. Throughout the year, we'll be actively involved with this chosen charity. At the end of the year, we'll select another charity from the SUP community to support in the following season.
So, the charity we have brought forward into 2024 is My Black Dog, a community-focused platform offering peer-to-peer conversations for people struggling with 'Mental Health Challenges' and 'Trauma'.
My Black Dog was founded on the motto, "Talk to someone who gets it". They want to connect people who share lived experiences to provide an empathetic, non-judgemental space where everybody understands how it feels to experience mental health struggles.
Taking care of your mental health is the most important thing you can do for yourself. If you're feeling shaky, don't fob yourself off because getting help now could prevent a crash later.
Watch the short video below from Eddy Temple-Morris from Virgin Radio, who is Patron for My Black Dog and hear from him about this game-changing mental health charity.
If you are overwhelmed and unsure who to talk to, talk to someone who gets it. With the My Black Dog volunteers, there's no judgement. They've been through it all: trips to the doctor, sessions with counsellors, conversations with family and friends, medication, breakdowns.
They might be able to guide you and get you on the road to feeling better. Visit www.myblackdog.co for more information.
Over the next couple of weeks, keep an eye out for how we at GBSUP will support My Black Dog.
